It seemed like this mixer only had one speed on any setting -- high. Too high for box cake mix, which is what I would usually use a hand mixer for.
Also, the beaters were very hard to release. I had to use a pot holder and push down hard. I used a pot holder because the beater release is also the speed control, and it is hard to push in on the end of a lever.

I was disappointed in this purchase. I was hoping for a mixer capable of handling non-gluten bread batters and other thick batters found in vintage cookbooks. This mixer started to smoke on the first try. The motor just didn't have the power dispite its 250-Watt rating. I'm back to mixing these batters by hand. I'm hoping that our few remaining American appliance companies will wake up and produce products the way they used to. This one may look the part, but I'll take my grandmother's hand mixer any day.

Used this for the first time today and it had some good features and a few not so great, but not deal breaker features. First the good.

The mixer came with a stainless steel bowl with a plastic lid. I'd guess it holds about about 5 or 6 quarts. Also a set (my last mixer only had one so this one does double duty)of whisks that attach to the mixer and a pair of small hooks for small dough batches and such, and lastly the beaters. The mixer has a good grip so you shouldn't need to worry about it slipping from your grasp and has several speeds and a power boost button. The mixer worked fine for mashing about 10-12 potatoes, average job it did, nothing special or amazing about the task that it performed. Also the bowl will hold all the attachments and the mixer for storage with the lid which is nice. The mixer feels comfortable, it actually feels much like holding a small hair dryer, not to heavy and was familiar. Something I'd like to make note of was when I attached the beaters they both snapped in nice and tight and I didn't have to worry they might pop out in the middle of my mixing job.

Things I noticed or didn't care for were while I was mashing/beating for about 5 minutes, within 30 seconds I smelled the motor had a slight burning odor, but my husband thought it was just the plastic and the first use so we will have to see. On the highest speed it didn't seem to do much better than the 3 speeds below it, but it got the job done. When I was finished I couldn't get the beaters off. I actually had to lay the mixer down and press the eject button with both thumbs really hard. It's nice to just be able to hit the button and drop them in the sink. Another negative is the beaters seem pretty cheap. Not sure how long they will last. I have a feeling they might bend easily or maybe even rust. Finally, the motor end is kind of exposed sticking up in the air while mixing so it could cause food to possibly fly up and get nto the motor.

Overall, it was about $30, but really it's nothing special. It compares to my last little mixer that was only like $10, but I guess because it came with the extra items that is what I'm paying for since the motor/power is small. It works and get's the job done so far, but it's only been used once by me so I guess the real test will be at xmas time baking and mixing everything.
